Success of first Women-Space career masterclass sparks launch of second programme
The first Women-Space Career Masterclass Programme which launched this week is proving so popular its creator has announced a second series of sessions.
The first programe kicked off on February 15, with the second lined up to begin on Thursday April 28.
The first was a sellout, so early booking is recommended!
The four-week programme is aimed at helping women develop their careers by addressing obstacles which often see men taking jobs from under their noses.
The weekly one-hour webinars will help participants tackle imposter syndrome, break through the glass ceiling and promote their abilities without boasting.
The programme will offer tools and techniques to help highly-skilled but as-yet unrecognised women progress professionally.
It looks at four key areas which favour men’s career progression above those of women and will demonstrate how to tackle these with confidence.
Women-Space CEO Christina Hughes explained the thinking behind the programme’s creation.
“One of the most common experiences that we have throughout life is imposter syndrome - when you feel like a fraud because you doubt your abilities and your right to be in the role you hold.
“Invisible barriers to progression include how women are more likely to be judged on their achievements while men are assessed on their potential. Others are that they you have to start proving themselves all over again when they have children.
“We will examine these and other issues which negatively impact on women’s career prospects and come up with a toolkit of ways to overcome them.”
This online programme begins on Thursday April 28 and runs weekly from 1 – 2pm until May 19. The £100 fee covers all four sessions.

Thursday April 28, 1-2 pm (GMT): The Credibility Gap
It is sad to say that women are seen as less credible leaders and managers than men. In this first session we explore how this credibility gap impacts of women’s careers and how we can we close it.
Thursday May 5, 1-2 pm (GMT): Feeling Like an Imposter
One of the most common experiences that we have throughout life is imposter syndrome - when you feel like a fraud because you doubt your abilities and your right to be in the role you hold. By exploring the difference between self-confidence and self-esteem, in this session we pay attention to our ‘I’m an imposter’ thoughts and how to handle them.
Thursday May 12, 1-2 pm (GMT): Glass Ceilings, Sticky Floors and Maternal Walls
Metaphors abound for describing the invisible barriers to women’s progression. These include: how women are more likely to be judged on their achievements and men on their potential; how you have to start proving yourself all over again when you have children; and how the work that many women get engaged in and are deeply passionate about - such as teaching, equalities, diversity and inclusion - carry low status and recognition. The challenge we have to grapple with is - Where are we best to put our energies and does that fit our personal values?
Thursday May 19, 1-2 pm (GMT): The Art of Appropriate Self-Promotion
We know that being successful at work requires us to be seen as both capable and likeable. And it is the likeable part that is problematic for women as, by and large, we are far more accepting of male than female ego. This makes it doubly difficult for women to draw attention to their successes and all-round awesomeness. This session provides a set of techniques which will help you realise the benefits of ‘self-promotion’ while avoiding being seen as shamelessly showing-off.
