Women-Space launches sister organisation in Australia

Women-Space is going global. It has created such impact since its launch two years ago that it has set up a sister organisation to support women working in higher education in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific.

Founder and CEO of Women-Space, Prof Christina Hughes, set up Women-Space in the autumn of 2021 with the aim of enabling women in academia to flourish in their careers and reach their professional potential. Already Women-Space has helped innumerable women advance in their careers.

Christina, who has a 30-year career in academia is former Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Warwick, Provost at Sheffield Hallam University and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Interim) at the University of Kent. She has written more than a dozen books, largely on gender equality, and is bursting with enthusiasm over the creation of a sister association on the other side of the world.

Christina is now being joined by Dr Naomi Dempsey who will be launching Women-Space Australia this week.

“I created Women-Space because I am incredibly passionate about gender equality, strongly believe in the principles of fairness, integrity and care and am determined that together we can create a more compassionate and equal world,” she said.

“This mission and vision for Women-Space has attracted global interest, demand and engagement from education leaders. With the creation of Women-Space Australia we aim to use our joint resources to support women in education to flourish in their careers, wherever they are in the world.”

Dr Naomi Dempsey is an executive educational leader with more than 25 years’ experience in higher and vocational education. Former Pro Vice-Chancellor of Students, Chief Student Officer and Interim Deputy Provost of Students and Academic Services at Victoria University, Naomi has held many executive roles in vocational education.

She has been awarded the tertiary education sector’s LH Martin Institute Award for Excellence in Leadership, which recognises her achievements in delivering innovative strategies which improve the student experience.

Women-Space and Women-Space Australia offer a range of services including coaching, mentoring and consultancy to higher education institutions to enable them to create more inclusive, compassionate working environments. Uniquely, they draw on many of the highest-ranking leaders and change-makers who act as Women-Space Associates and Ambassadors.
