Boudicca Webinar Series May
May webinar: ‘Understanding and overcoming feeling like an imposter’.
Date: Tuesday 16th May 2023, 12.30-14.00 (GMT)
Hosts: Professor Christina Hughes and Dr Rebecca Feasey
Do you worry that you will be ‘found out’ because you aren’t as good as people think you are? Do you attribute your success to luck or hard work? While everyone else thinks that you are the smartest person in the room, why do you feel that you are the least capable/most stupid? Welcome to imposterism or - as if it is an illness or some kind of disorder of the psyche - imposter syndrome as it is often called. In this webinar we will explore the possible causes of imposterism, whether imposterism is a state rather than a trait and what these feelings are telling us about ourselves and the world around us. We will then turn to some ways in which – even if we can’t make them magically disappear – we can ameliorate their most negative effects.
